Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia was seen speaking publicly for the first time about the heartbreaking death of his and his partner's newborn daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia.
The young baby passed away shortly after her birth on October 26, 2025. The pair had mentioned how Sterling's death took place last fall, and that was a major reason for Vesia stepping away from the LA Dodgers team during the 2025 World Series.
This was a period when the team carried his No. 51 in tribute.
At the Dodgers spring training, Vesia read a heartfelt statement about the brief but very meaningful time that they had spent with Sterling. He held her, changed her diaper, and even cherished every moment he had with her.
He added how the loss ended up teaching him and Kayla that life can alter in an instant and even spoke about deep gratitude for the overwhelming amount of support that he received from teammates, fans, and so many opponents.
Vesia also added how he and Kayla started therapy to assist in navigating the grief, and also encouraged others facing similar struggles to seek support and not suffer.
