Tensions are at an all-time high as the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has entered its 13th day today with no major leads and suspects in custody.
Now, the FBI and Sheriff's Department are said to be coming head-to-head after it was believed that Sheriff Chris Nanos had blocked FBI access to some crucial evidence.
This includes a glove and DNA materials found from Guthrie's home. He did this by choosingto select those items for a private crime lab in Florida instead of the FBI's national forensic lab, which is present in Virginia.
As per sources, this decision had limited the FBI's ability to fully assist and might delay important forensic work that would identify the suspect or work to advance this current investigation.
The county reportedly spent some huge funds on the Florida lab, even though the FBI has technologies and resources that officials say could speed up this probe.
Sheriff Nanos has denied blocking the FBI, adding how this department has been very cooperative and that consolidating all evidence in one lab is said to be standard procedure.
