Sources are speaking more about how it took more than a week for the FBIto attain and release the Nest security camera footage in the missing person case of Nancy Guthrie.
Despite her being missing for 11 days, the FBI says they had to face plenty of legal, technical, and investigative factors to arrive at this place.
At the start, authorities assumed there was no footage because the camera was not linked to a paid Nest subscription and had lost power. This meant that there was limited stored video access.
Later on, investigators found that some data fragments might still have been retained inside Google's backend systems.
Retrieving the material needed coordination with Nest engineers and specialized technical work, which took a span of several days.
Furthermore, law enforcement likely had to follow formal legal procedures like attaining warrants before getting access to data companies, which is not always easy.
