Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier nearly faced a major wardrobe malfunction during their rhythm dance routine, which is a penalty that could be applied if a loose piece of clothing touches the ice under the ISU rules and regulations.
During the lift, a wrist cuff from Poirier's costume got loose and attached to Gilles' tights, giving rise to a risk that could make it fall into the rink and trigger a point deduction.
Instead of allowing this to take place, Gilles gave a reaction instantly, grabbing this loose cuff and secretly tucking it behind her back before the final pose arose.
The quick thinking prevented the piece from touching the ice, so the judges didn't penalize them, and they continued to keep the score of 86.18, which left them in third place heading into the free dance and still in medal contention.
