President Trump has sharply escalated the attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar.
In a shocking array of posts made through his social media platform, the US President demanded that Omar be jailed or sent back to Somalia, where she belonged, accusing her of taking part in or benefiting from fraud linked to a high-profile scandal in Minnesota.
He also characterized her and Somali immigrants as criminals and slammed all local Democratic leaders for failing to shed light on this important issue.
Trump then was seen repeating long-standing attacks on Omar's loyalty to the US, questioning the legitimacy of her citizenship, and using this demeaning language aimed to target her background.
The remarks come in the wake of an unsettling incident in Minneapolis, where a man sprayed Omar with a syringe filled with apple cider vinegar at a town hall event.
The attacker was swiftly detained, but the president shared how he felt that she might have staged the attack herself to gain more spotlight.
