The first look set photos from Disney's upcoming live-action Tangled remake has given rise to a new and intense debate on social media.
This is right after the unveiling of Australian star Teagan Croft in costume as Rapunzel. Directed by Gracey and currently filming in Spain, the project resumed production in 2025 after a short pause triggered by the commercial underperformance of Snow White.
The set pictures showed Croft wearing Rapunzel's signature puffed-sleeve purple dress and long blonde wig, but the visual direction immediately divided audiences. Critics on X argued that the dress design appeared to be overly muted and dark, lacking the bright and whimsical charm of the 2010 animated original.
Some users even likened the outfit to incomplete cosplay.
