An estimated 100 to 200 graduating students were seen staging a coordinated walkout at Stanford University's 135th commencement ceremony, just as Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai took the stage as the keynote speaker.
As Pichai was introduced at Stanford Stadium, a major group of graduates got up and booed him and then blew whistles and waved flags of Palestine. Many protesting students wore traditional keffiyehs over their graduation gowns, too, to make their point.
Students then began to chant the Free Palestine and Shame on You lines as they marched out during the middle of his speech. This particular demonstration was organized by student-led activist groups, including Students for Justice in Palestine and No Tech for Apartheid.
