A district court has convicted Marius Borg Hoiby, who is the stepson of Norway's Crown Prince Haakon, on two counts of rape and several other offenses.
This left him with a jail sentence of four years. The 29-year-old was found guilty of two counts of rape, repeated domestic violence against his former lover, traffic violations, and other leading drug offenses. He was acquitted on two more counts of rape.
One of the proven rapes arose in 2018 in the basement of the crown prince's family estate at Skaugum. The 7-week trial made use of heavy electronic proof, including more than 800 text messages and self-recorded videos of sexual encounters found on his phone.
However, he did not plead guilty to the most serious sexual abuse accusations. He did admit to other minor offenses, including transporting 3.5 kg of marijuana, which he retains the right to appeal.
