A new gun law has been pushed forward as part of the California Senate Bill 948. This latest proposed piece of legislation could require most firearm buyers to finish a four-hour-long safety training course that entails live fire exercises before they can legally purchase any weapon.
To get the California Firearm Safety Certificate, buyers need to complete a four-hour-long state-approved safety course. This bill mandates at least one hour of live shooting at a firing range.
At the moment, residents in California can secure a certificate simply by passing a written, multiple-choice test. Gun owners moving to California would face a 180-day window to register all weapons and complete this certification.
The law is being sponsored by the Democratic State Senator Jesse Arreguin.
