Nick Reiner's effort to access a $1.5 million trust fund established by his late parents could hinge on whether California's Slayer Statute applies to trust assets he feels became his before their deaths.
The trust dispute arose as Nick faces two murder charges in connection with the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner.
Prosecutors alleged that Nick fatally stabbed the pair inside their Brentwood home in December 2025. He's since then pleaded guilty. As per a petition filed in the California probate court, the trust at issue is separate from the bigger Reiner family trust and was created for Nick's individual benefit.
The filing states how his siblings each have their own separate trusts. Now, Nick's attorneys continue to argue about how he needs access to the funds to pay for his criminal defense.
