Actor Idris Alba is making it clear that he is not in the running to be the next James Bond.
He also shared a very bold train of thought that had to do with how James Bond audiences wouldn't go for any black male playing 007, as he rules himself out of the running. The star added how he was never in the running to begin with, and all such rumors stating otherwise are false and unrealistic.
"Global markets would never accept a Black actor portraying 007," he continued. Speaking with the leading British GQ magazine Heroes Issue, the actor addressed the relentless fan casting that has followed him for nearly a decade. He clarified that James Bond was written with a certain identity for a reason and warned against trying to adapt the character to fixate on modern cultural debates.
Elba further argued that the James Bond franchise is a huge global property, but some markets just don't go for that and will never accept a Black or African male playing the lead because that's not what they like in their culture.
