Residents of one state will be receiving rebate checks to put towards their bills as summer threatens to raise utility costs.
The assistance comes as many Americans face all-time high utility bills and cost of living. New York Governor Kathy Hochul shared that residents would be getting one-time rebate checks of up to $200 to put towards their utility bills.
The rebate checks were shared last week as part of the $1 billion budget under the Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate Program, created to give relief to families across New York. The budget not only means more protections and direct financial relief for ratepayers today, but it also prepares many for a stronger tomorrow, Hochul mentioned in a press statement.
The governor added that 8.5 million families would be getting benefits from this assistance.
Checks of up to $200 to 8.5 million families earning less than $150,00 would be going out, she confirmed today. Most New York residents would be getting a rebate check automatically, as per the press briefing.
