A group of special needs students was omitted from their North Carolina high school yearbook, as confirmed by their parents.
Krista Zelt Caraway shared more about how her two graduating seniors, alongside a dozen other students, were left out of the Chapel Hill High School yearbook. The fact that there were no individual photos, no accurate senior recognition, and no inclusion within the Class of 2026 representation that other students received had parents in shock, as shared in a post on Facebook.
Caraway's son suffers from autism, while her daughter suffers from being non-verbal, but the fact that this is the possible reason for them to be removed from a yearbook has left the mother in shock and anger.
'My two seniors have overcome enormous diversity to reach such a major milestone. One is graduating with straight As and Honors classes after years of perseverance and healing' she added. Many other students with disabilities complained of the same thing, speaking about how they feel excluded thanks to such rude behavior and tactics employed by the school. The district was forced to apologize after the incident, claiming that a gap remains in internal procedure and checks, not in discrimination or any intentional exclusion.
