Boarding cruise ships is designed to mark the beginning of a dream holiday, but recent incidents at sea continue to show how fast such dreams could turn into major chaos.
A Disney cruise asked passengers to disembark shortly after boarding last week, leaving them stranded several miles away from home. On May 9, travelers aboard the latest 6700-passenger Disney Adventure ship were left with no choice but to move out due to a mechanical issue with propulsion. While the company did offer travelers refunds and a future credit for the inconvenience, the cruise to nowhere caused major disappointment for obvious reasons, as it was one of the first trips that this new ship made from Singapore since the cruise line's most anticipated entry into the Asian market. Nearly 100 travelers who waited to board the 2996 passenger ship described the matter as total chaos.
This sparked furious reactions on social media platforms, with one person mentioning that it was beyond ridiculous and another adding that it was so poor on the part of Disney to think that something like this was okay in the first place.
The incident comes only days after a vessel was seen traveling from Argentina to Cape Verde, which is known to have reported the fatal hantavirus infection.
Passengers checked into their cabins and settled in for the first night of a four-day-long sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line's Disney Adventure on Thursday.
However, this ship remained docked overnight at its departure point, which is Singapore's Marina Bay Cruise Center. A mechanical issue was shared as the reason for this delay.
