Hantavirus Cruise Passenger Was Initially Told Her Symptoms Were Just Anxiety — Now She’s in ‘Very Critical’ Condition

A passenger from France on the MV Hondius cruise ship is currently in critical condition following the ship's hantavirus outbreak.

According to reports from local media outlets, the French woman was removed from the boat in Tenerife, Spain, on Sunday and flown to Paris.

But before her evacuation could ensue, she was assessed by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the Spanish foreign health service.

There, doctors spoke about how her symptoms were not compatible with the hantavirus. She mentioned more about how she had a coughing episode days before this, and that disappeared.

The doctors felt that what she was having at the moment was stress or anxiety-related and didn't flag the condition as serious.

Now, after evacuating the ship, she has tested positive for the hantavirus and is said to be in a critical condition.

'It's not that the patient was feeling bad and she was saying, 'Ok, I am not going to say anything because I want to be on that plane!'- they revealed. The WHO says her condition is very critical, and she's currently isolating in Paris, and 22 contacts were traced to her.
