Students evacuated from Florida university building as huge blaze breaks out on campus

A massive fire recently broke out at the University of Florida St. Petersburg campus on Saturday evening, forcing quick evacuation of students.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue replied to the two alarm fire, which broke out at a commercial building at 140 7th Avenue South. This building was identified as the campus's over 80-year-old Marine Science Lab.

All occupants were evacuated, and no injuries were reported as per local media outlets.

Dozens of units replied to the blaze, streets were being shut down, and collapse zones were created amid major concerns that this structure would fall down.

As per first responders arriving at the scene, the blaze remained active for hours as crews continued to battle the fire.

Officials claim this massive blaze was a potential hazmat situation due to the different chemicals stored inside the lab. Investigations continue to take place regarding this incident.
