Spirit Airlines has confirmed that it is shutting down.
This is a move that would impact thousands of scheduled flights and nearly as many employees. The troubled budget carrier had cancelled all flights and shared an orderly wind-down of operations, effective immediately, early Saturday.

They shared a message online to all guests that all flights were cancelled and customer service is no longer available. "We are proud of the impact of the ultra low cost model on the industry over the last 34 years and had hoped to serve guests for many years to come," the post added.
Spirit has struggled to maintain consistent profitability since the pandemic and has been looking to emerge from its second bankruptcy in less than one year.

But those plans were derailed amid rising jet fuel prices sparked by the outbreak of the war in Iran. Despite the firm's efforts, the recent material rise in oil prices and other pressures on the business have increased significantly.
