A woman from Florida is breaking her silence after she was forced to attend a virtual court hearing while she was in active labor after refusing to have a C-section.
As stated in media reports, Cherise Doyley, who was a pregnant mother of three from Jacksonville, Florida, arrived at the University of Florida Health Hospital after going into labor.
Doyley informed the medical staff that she wished to try for a national birth. But doctors shared their concerns about the risk of uterine rupture and mentioned that she needed to give birth through a C-section.
A uterine rupture is a life-threatening emergency where the uterine wall tends to tear open, resulting in serious abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, and fetal distress.
While it's rare, it does occur in 1 in 300 deliveries, but is more likely in those who try for a vaginal delivery after having a previous C-section delivery.
While the patient was in her 12th hour of active labor at the hospital, a nurse brought in a tablet with a judge, doctors, lawyers, and others on a Zoom court hearing, and she had to attend from her bed. The mother shed light on the reason for her ignoring the risk was that her last c-section experience was not good, and she didn't want a repeat of that.
