5 Injured, Passengers Forced to Evacuate on Runway Using Emergency Slides After Flight Aborts Takeoff amid Engine Fire

Four passengers and a crew member on board a Swiss International Airlines flight were said to be injured after the plane's engine caught on fire during takeoff, and all passengers were forced to be evacuated on the runway.

The Airbus A330 was said to fly from New Delhi's airport to Zurich shortly after 1 am local time on Sunday. However, this flight aborted takeoff after the fire erupted, as per local media outlets.

As per The Times of India, the plane had hit a speed of nearly 120 mph on the runway when the engine failed, and that prompted the pilots to make a drastic call to evacuate. There were a total of 232 passengers, including four infants on board and 13 new crew members on flight LX147, according to the press.

The runway was shut for nearly three hours to enable passengers to depart, and the plane was soon removed. Those on board had departed the plane through emergency slides, and four of the injured passengers rushed to a nearby hospital. One of the cabin crew members is said to have suffered from a sprained ankle.
