'Beautiful' girl, 12, dead in tragic park swing accident - 'Should have been removed'

Tragic reports are speaking about a 12-year-old girl who tragically passed away after getting hit by a falling branch from a tree where a rope swing that needed to be removed months earlier was located, as confirmed by an inquest.

Brooke Wiggins died in Surrey, just days before her 13th birthday, due to a fatal injury that she sustained upon impact.

The inquest revealed that this tree is maintained by the Surrey County Council and was inspected in May of 2022, and was scheduled for a re-inspection in May of 2024. This was a check that ultimately didn't occur.

Christian Weaver stated more about how the inspection should have taken place on time to avoid this disaster, as any rope found on the tree would have been removed as per the policy.

Reps for Surrey County Council mentioned how expert evidence showed that an inspection might not have achieved a materially different outcome.

In a statement read by assistant coroner Ivor Collet on behalf of Brooke's mother, she was described as a loving, fun, caring, and beautiful girl who had the most amazing way to light up every room that she entered.
