Now, sources have confirmed that it's turned into an ugly mess this time around again after 200 people were reportedly killed on the nation's roads in a span of just five days.
This particular holiday celebrates the New Year in Thailand and draws millions for a mass drenching episode that is a ritual meant to symbolize spiritual cleansing and a new start. Authorities in Thailand logged 191 fatalities, 951 accidents, and nearly 911 injuries between the dates of April 10 and April 14. This is from data shared by the Road Safety Directing Center and reported by local media outlets.
Bangkok posted the highest cumulative death toll, while Phrae province shared the most accidents and the most injuries.
This carnage falls within a stretch commonly dubbed the seven dangerous days, as per local news outlets. The week-long enforcement window runs from April 10 to April 16 under this campaign, where safe driving, reducing speed, and preventing accidents are outlined for precaution.
