7-Year-Old Pilot Was Attempting World Record When Plane Crashed, Killing 3 in Failed 'Adventure of a Lifetime'

Dave Dubroff still remembers the moment when he found out that his 7-year-old half-sister, Jessica Dubroff, and his 57-year-old father Lloyd were killed in a plane crash that also claimed the life of pilot and flight instructor Joe Reid.

"I was at work," Dave mentioned to PEOPLE, and he also shared how he heard on the radio that the plane had ended up crashing. "I ran out to a payphone and called the Cheyenne Police Department, who explained to me that I needed to call the sheriff's department to find out"- he continued.

"I was in a state of denial and thought, and I am sure everyone lived," he added. After that, he mentioned, 'Then they told me. No, they had all died on that flight- he sadly continued.

During that moment in time, Jessica was said to be the youngest person to pilot the plane across America. This is a feat that drew massive national media attention. But this case raises questions about the parents' decision and whether young kids should be allowed to drive planes in the first place.
