Shocking reports are speaking about a measles outbreak in Bangladesh that led to 15 deaths, as confirmed by officials.
The news comes after the country had missed its last vaccination drive for measles and therefore had to face this devastating impact after an outbreak. The government is now getting ready to launch an emergency immunization program as part of its efforts to try to contain this disease.
Health Services Division Secretary mentioned how the deaths were confirmed after lab testing of nearly 33 samples that were conducted with support from the WHO. Of those tested, 15 deaths were directly linked to measles infection.
Measles is said to be one of the most infectious pathogens and requires up to 95% of the population to be vaccinated in order to stop the spread.
