An infant was killed while the child's mother was recently hospitalized after the two of them were involved in a crash while riding in a private ambulance in Philadelphia, as per the cops.
According to reports from local media outlets, the vehicle was being driven by the child's grandad, who was allegedly under the influence during the time of the incident. As per a new preliminary report from the cops, first responders got a call about an unresponsive infant early on Sunday. By the time the police arrived, the family had already left the residence in a private ambulance.
The vehicle was said to be traveling at a very high speed and wasn't operating in emergency status, with lights or sirens not getting activated.
The ambulance was driven by a 51-year-old male who was drunk and therefore ran a red traffic light with the mother and child inside. This caused the ambulance to crash into another vehicle.
The other car was traveling through an intersection on a green light and was hit on the driver's side front door.
The incident's impact was huge, and it threw both the mother and her infant from the window of the ambulance. Both of them were found on the road, as per the cops. The baby couldn't make it out alive, but her mother managed to survive with critical injuries and is now hospitalized. The infant's grandad is set to face several charges, as per the report.
