Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa's lonely resting place marked only by a conch shell...as his three children battle over his $90M fortune one year after their shocking deaths

A year after the tragic deaths of Gene Hackman and his partner, their final resting place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is taking the world by surprise.

The location remains unmarked and silent, with no headstone, flowers, or visible memorial at the cemetery where they were privately buried.

Hackman and Arakawa were found dead inside their residence in February of 2025, with authorities noting very unusual circumstances linked to their deaths.

An investigation was launched during that time period. Hackman died of heart disease, with advanced Alzheimer's complicating the matter during his final days. This was nearly a week after his wife's death from a rare hantavirus illness.

The lack of a proper grave marker is becoming a strong public flashpoint as Hackman's estate is said to be worth tens of millions. It has given rise to a bitter legal fight.

Hackman left all of his wealth to Arakawa, excluding his three kids from a past marriage, and after her death, her own will did not recognize them. This has led the kids to challenge both wills in court, seeking a share of their father's inheritance. This comes as the couple's burial site remains small and neglected, even one year post their deaths.
