Prince Harry has announced a series of new public engagements just days after King Charles issued a formal clarification about Harry and Meghan Markle’s status within the royal family.
Harry’s upcoming schedule includes several appearances connected to causes he has supported for years. He is due to attend the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards on September 17 and will also take part in the launch of the Invictus education program, INSPIRE. Later in the month, he is scheduled to attend the WellChild Awards in London, an event he has supported since becoming the charity’s patron in 2007.
Harry is also expected to return to the United States later this month for the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York on September 22 and 23. It will be his second appearance at the event.
The announcements come shortly after King Charles authorized a letter to senior British officials stating that Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the royal family and should be regarded as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests. The letter also confirmed that the couple will continue not to use their HRH styles publicly.
Sources close to Harry and Meghan have pushed back against the description of them as private citizens, arguing that their international visibility makes a completely private life unrealistic. Harry and Meghan were reportedly surprised by the timing of the King’s letter and learned about it shortly before it was released.
Despite the disagreement over their status, Harry is continuing with a busy schedule of charitable and public appearances. His latest engagements show that he remains heavily involved with the causes and organizations he has supported since stepping away from royal duties.
