A beloved amusement park with more than a century of history has closed its gates for good, bringing an unexpected end to a place that created memories for generations of families.
Clementon Park and Splash World officially closed after the 2026 season, with its final day coming on Labor Day. The 119-year-old attraction has now been put up for sale, as its current owners hope another buyer will step in and preserve its long history.
The park first opened in 1907 and went through major changes over the decades. It survived a devastating fire in 1931 and later expanded with the addition of Splash World in 1993. Over the years, visitors came for attractions including roller coasters, thrill rides and a giant Ferris wheel.
The park has also had a difficult recent history. It closed in 2019 after its previous owner defaulted on a $4.5 million loan. It was later purchased at auction by IB Parks & Entertainment in 2021 and reopened that same year. The latest closure comes after five seasons under the current ownership.
The owners have not publicly disclosed exactly why they decided to close the park or how much they are seeking for the property. They said they are hopeful that a new buyer will share their appreciation for the attraction and keep its history alive.
For longtime visitors, the closure marks the end of an era. What happens to the property next will depend on whether a new owner can be found to give the historic park another chance.
