A birthday cake meant to deliver a playful message ended up with a much longer inscription after a bakery misunderstood a customer’s instructions.
Chelsi Kern, a casting agent, ordered a Carvel Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake for her husband, Matthew Bennett. She wanted the cake to feature the word “RUN” in large capital letters, with a creepy look for a humorous birthday surprise.

But the cake decorator appears to have taken the instructions literally. Instead of writing just “RUN,” the decorator put the full message on the cake, including the formatting directions and a spelling mistake. The finished inscription read: “Run & Big, All Caps Creepy if Possiple.”

Kern shared the mix-up in a Threads post on October 3, explaining just how hard she laughed when she saw the result. She described herself as laughing so intensely that she “literally collapsed.”
Her husband initially took longer to understand the joke. But after reading the message again and looking at the receipt, Bennett eventually found the mistake just as funny.
Some of Kern’s friends suggested she ask the bakery for a refund. She decided against it, saying the mishap had given the couple and their friends a funny story they would remember for years.

Kern also shared a broader takeaway from the experience: when mistakes happen, finding the humor in them can be more rewarding than getting angry.
The unusual cake inscription turned a simple birthday order into an unexpected comedy moment, all because one word came with instructions the decorator apparently treated as part of the message.
Carvel did not respond to the New York Post’s request for comment.
