A mother accused of killing her husband and their 3-year-old son had received a gas shutoff notice over an unpaid bill of just $29.05 days before the deaths.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, faces two counts of criminal homicide after her husband, Charles Harrison, and their young son were found dead at Great Wolf Lodge, a family resort where they had been staying for several weeks. Authorities allege that both victims suffered fatal stab wounds. The case remains under investigation, and the charges have not been proven in court.

The gas notice, dated October 5, warned that service at the family’s home could be disconnected beginning October 8 because of the outstanding balance.

The family was away at the time. The notice has emerged as investigators and relatives continue trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The family’s extended resort stay has also drawn attention. According to the report, the trip was originally scheduled to end on October 5, but the family extended it through October 13. The total cost was estimated at around $6,000. The report also states that Harrison allegedly used money from her husband’s retirement account to help pay for the trip.

Police say Harrison called 911 after the incident and was later charged in connection with the deaths. A preliminary hearing was tentatively scheduled for October 21 to determine whether sufficient evidence exists for the case to proceed.
The unpaid bill is one detail among several now being examined, but authorities have not established that it was connected to the killings. Investigators continue working to determine what led to the deaths.
