A 17-month-old girl nearly died after her vomiting suddenly changed from yellow to blue-green, leading doctors to discover a dangerous E. coli infection.
Brooklyn Marris became seriously ill after she began vomiting during a family car ride. Over the following two days, her vomit reportedly changed from yellow bile to a strange blue-green color.
Her condition quickly became life-threatening. Doctors determined that Brooklyn had been infected with a dangerous strain of E. coli, which led to hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can cause severe damage to the kidneys and other organs.

Brooklyn was transferred to a children's hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator and needed dialysis after her kidneys began failing. She also suffered cardiac arrest three times, leaving her family unsure whether she would survive.

Doctors eventually saved her life, but the family believes they know where the infection came from. For about six months, Brooklyn had been drinking raw, unpasteurized goat’s milk that her mother had found through a Facebook group. Her mother had originally given it to her because she believed it could help with constipation.

The milk came from a nearby farm that was not licensed to sell milk for human consumption. Another child who drank milk from the same farm also reportedly became seriously ill.
Brooklyn survived, but her mother now deeply regrets giving her the raw milk and hopes their experience will warn other parents about the risks associated with unpasteurized milk. A lawsuit against the farm is ongoing.
