South Korean singer-actress Kim Se Jeong may soon headline a new action-fantasy K-drama titled High School Queen, and the casting news is already creating excitement among global drama fans.
On April 2, reports revealed that Kim Se Jeong received an offer to play the lead role in the upcoming series. Her agency confirmed that the project is currently one of the scripts she is reviewing, meaning her appearance has not yet been officially finalized.
Earlier, actress Shin Ye Eun had also been in talks for the same role but reportedly declined the offer.
The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name and follows a unique fantasy storyline. It centers on Kim Chung-ha, a powerful queen and elite swordswoman from the Joseon era who is reincarnated into the body of a modern-day high school student named Park Da-jin. After arriving in the present, she uses her martial-arts skills and strong sense of justice to stand up against school bullying and protect those around her.
Production planning for the drama is still underway, and its broadcast schedule has not yet been announced.
Because the series combines historical elements, fantasy reincarnation, and school-action themes, it is expected to appeal to both webtoon readers and international K-drama audiences.
The casting news arrives during an especially busy period for Kim Se Jeong. Known globally for her performances in dramas such as Business Proposal, The Uncanny Counter, and Today’s Webtoon, she continues to strengthen her reputation as a versatile actress across romance, action, and workplace storytelling genres.
In addition to her acting activities, Kim Se Jeong is also preparing for a milestone reunion project with her original group I.O.I, which plans to mark its 10th anniversary with a comeback and tour beginning in May.
Although confirmation of her participation in High School Queen is still pending, fans are already eager to see whether she will take on the role of a sword-wielding queen navigating modern school life. If she accepts, the drama could become one of the most talked-about webtoon adaptations currently in development.
