Aespa is coming back. According to a local media report published Friday, the SM Entertainment girl group is preparing a new album for release in May — their first since the sixth EP "Rich Man," which came out earlier this year.
For a group that has turned million-selling records into a habit, the announcement is less surprising than the pace of it. Every studio release Aespa has put out — five EPs and their first full-length album "Armageddon" — has crossed the one-million sales mark. Five of those achieved it within the first week of release, a record for a K-pop girl group at the time, starting from their second EP "Girls" in 2022.
"Rich Man" continued the streak without much struggle. The focus track of the same name earned Aespa first place on domestic television music chart shows ten times — the most of any single in their discography so far. The group has built a reputation for landing at the top of charts consistently, not occasionally, and "Rich Man" was no exception.
Outside of the comeback preparations, Aespa has been keeping busy. Last week, the group recorded the opening theme song for the Japanese television animation "Kill Blue," adding to a growing list of projects that extend their reach beyond standard K-pop release cycles. The collaboration reflects how seriously Japanese media properties are taking K-pop partnerships right now — an opening theme from Aespa is not a small placement.
The group also has a full international schedule ahead before the May comeback. Their ongoing "Synk: aeXIS Line" world tour takes them to Jakarta, Indonesia, followed by Osaka and Tokyo in April. Karina's recent double appearance at Prada's Milan fashion week — attending both the menswear and womenswear shows within a single month — has kept the group in global headlines even between music releases.
A May album would follow a pattern Aespa has settled into: world tour dates, high-profile brand activity, then a comeback that lands with enough momentum already built that the charts respond immediately.
