A 21-year-old protester in Santa Ana, California, was recently left permanently in one eye after getting struck in the face with a projectile bullet that was fired by a federal agent.
The incident arose during an anti-ICE demonstration, his family commented. The protest arose on January 9 outside the federal immigration facility, where demonstrators gathered in reply to a separate recent shooting involving a federal agent.
As per his aunt, Kaden Rummier was a college student who was hit right in the eye at close range and immediately suffered serious injuries, including skull fractures and a destroyed left eye.
This has left him unable to see out of that eye again. He was said to be in the ICU for two days and underwent six hour long surgery to get rid of the debris and treat those wounds, but doctors stated that the vision loss is permanent.
Rummier was soon released after that, but the damage to his eye and skull needs ongoing medical attention.
Video from the scene showed men in gear confronting protesters. After being struck, Rummier was seen falling to the ground and pulled by a federal agent while he was bleeding.
