Tragic reports have confirmed the death of several dozen people who were ringing in the new year in southwestern Switzerland.
Sources from local media outlets spoke about how the exact cause of the explosion is unknown, but some speculations did speak about a possible fire arising due to fireworks. Other reports from witnesses speak about the blaze arising due to a birthday candle put inside a champagne bottle during New Year's Eve celebrations.

Investigators have ruled out any kind of attack. Police shared how they were not confirmed about the exact number of deaths but so far, it has increased to 40 with hundreds seriously injured.

Helicopters and ambulances were seen rushing to the scene of the tragedy to assist victims which included many tourists from different countries.
Earlier, sources shared how there were more than 100 people in the building when the blaze broke out. Another medical source confirmed that the region's hospitals were overwhelmed with burn victims in the aftermath of the disaster.
