A train driver was killed, and nearly 40 more were injured after two trains crashed head-on near Machu Picchu, Peru.
Videos shared by passengers to the RPP TV channel showed injured victims lying next to the tracks with two damaged locomotives standing idle nearby.
The trains were seen facing one another on the track, broken glass strewn around, and injured people being treated on the sides of the tracks.
A dozen ambulances and medical personnel were rushed to the site in a remote Andean area without direct road access.
Police are now investigating the collision between trains operated by Inca Rail and PeruRail, which mostly transport tourists to the famous site.
A health official mentioned how 20 people were in relatively serious condition. Police also shared how foreign tourists were injured in this crash, though a full list of the nationalities of those hurt in this crash has yet to be released. A health official confirmed that nearly 20 people are in serious condition.
