Dad Throws His Two Young Children From Parking Garage Before Jumping to His Death in Shocking Murder-Suicide

A Pennsylvania community is mourning after a father and his two young children died in a suspected murder-suicide at a parking garage, leaving families and school officials struggling to process the tragedy.

Authorities identified the victims as 42-year-old Patrick Lynch, his 8-year-old son, James, and his 6-year-old daughter, Caroline. Their bodies were discovered near a parking garage in Mt. Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday afternoon, November 3.

According to Allegheny County Police, preliminary information suggests Lynch threw his two children from the parking garage before jumping himself. Investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide, not an accident.

Emergency responders arrived around 4:15 p.m. and attempted lifesaving measures, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner said their injuries were consistent with a fall.

Authorities have not publicly explained what led to the incident, and a possible motive has not been established.

Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman acknowledged the devastating impact the deaths would have on the community.

“There will be a significant amount of trauma associated with this event for the community,” he said.

The tragedy also affected the local school district. Two elementary schools were closed on Wednesday, while counselors were made available to support students and staff. Families at other schools were also given the option to keep their children home.

Police have said there is no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continues.

The deaths of the two children and their father have left the close-knit community grieving as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
