South Korean billionaire Chey Tae-won is now facing the consequences of his own actions.
And it wouldn't be wrong to say that it does not come cheap.
The chairman of the SK Group was recently ordered by an appeals court to pay his former wife Roh Soh-yeong, a staggering amount of funds, $645 million to be exact, and that too in cash. The matter is now being dubbed as the divorce of the century as the country's highest-profile divorce settlement to date.
The pair were reportedly married in 1988, and by 2015 their relationship imploded in the public eye after Chey shared a three-page confession in the newspaper about his extramarital affair and a child born outside his marriage with his current partner, Kim Hee-young.
Roh first sought a staggering $1 billion and argued more about how her father, former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo, had provided secret financial support and political influence that laid the foundation of her former husband's firm and rapid expansion. But little did she know that her former husband would be engaged in ruthless behavior.
