A growing health concern is taking over the US, and if you're a foodie in the States, then you might want to read on further.
The popularity of the protein craze is nothing new, but this trend might be getting out of hand, as confirmed by health experts. To be more specific, the massive popularity has to do with meat sticks and processed jerky snacks that many Americans are tricked into thinking are good for them.

The reality is far from that. While Americans spent $50 billion on protein snacks last year, food journalist Elizabeth Dunn and doctors warn that this trend carries the risk of major overload.
Processed meats are classified as Group 1 carcinogens by the World Health Organization. This means they are scientifically proven to cause cancer in humans. And when you overconsume such meats, it gives rise to higher rates of diabetes and all-cause mortality.

Moreover, journalists point out that most Americans already consume* more than their recommended daily amount of protein, so necessary precautions are advised.
