A 28-year-old British national was recently arrested in South Yorkshire on suspicion of the murder of former Conservative minister and Reform UK spokesperson Ann Widdecombe.
The huge arrest was said to be conducted by the counter terrorism police on behalf of Devon and Cornwall. This took place about 270 miles away from the area where the crime took place.
The 78-year-old former MP was found dead at her own residence in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday with serious injuries. This is when investigators spoke about how they believed she was attacked nearly a day before her remains were found.
A 26-year-old male was previously arrested in Newton Abbot and then released on Saturday, and was then cleared of any kind of involvement. Authorities added that while counter terrorism officers helped in this operation, there is no evidence that suggests that this was a terrorism related or politically motivated motive, as investigations continue on this front.
