An American passenger returning to the US from the Hantavirus-stricken MV Hondius cruise ship has now tested positive for this deadly virus.
Meanwhile, a second person is now showing mild symptoms, as confirmed by health officials.
Both passengers had traveled inside the biocontainment units during a repatriation flight to bring all 17 US passengers from this luxury cruise liner to the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The flight landed in Nebraska at about 2:30 am on Monday.
One of the passengers had tested mildly PCR positive for the Andes virus, which has already claimed the lives of three passengers aboard the ship and sickened several more.
The other passenger is now showing mild symptoms, and it is yet to be known if they were tested for the rodent-borne virus or not. All passengers were kept under observation after being evacuated from the ship that docked at the Canary Islands yesterday.
