Four New Jersey teenagers are facing charges after allegedly stealing a $220,000 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and leading police on an hours-long chase that ended in a deadly head-on collision. Nayshaun Brown, 18, along with three unnamed minors, allegedly stole the 2024 luxury SUV around 3:40 a.m. Saturday in Longport, New Jersey, blowing past a police officer who tried to pull them over.
For more than four hours, the teens evaded multiple police departments across Atlantic County. Hamilton Township officers spotted the stolen vehicle again around 7:45 a.m. but lost sight of it just minutes before tragedy struck. Prosecutors say the G-Wagon was speeding down the wrong side of the road near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing when it slammed head-on into a Hyundai sedan, sending it careening into a nearby gas station.
The crash killed the sedan's two occupants: Alice Stilwell, 67, a beloved mother and grandmother, and her longtime partner, Robert "Bob" Barr Jr., 54, both of Egg Harbor Township. A GoFundMe has since been set up to help cover funeral costs for the couple.
Remarkably, all four teens walked away from the wreck with only minor injuries and attempted to flee on foot before being caught and arrested. It remains unclear which teen was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Brown and the three minors now face charges including conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, joyriding, and eluding police, with Brown facing an additional charge for allegedly involving a juvenile in the crime.
