A Florida couple killed in a devastating helicopter crash in Kenya had their Coral Gables home ransacked by thieves just days after their deaths, with police saying the burglars struck less than 24 hours after the tragedy became public.
Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, were among seven people killed when their helicopter crashed near Mount Ololokwe in Kenya's Samburu County on August 19. Sometime between August 20 and 22, two suspects, identified as Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, allegedly broke into the couple's home on Valencia Avenue and looted it of personal and business documents, jewelry, electronics, and valuable artwork. They also made off with the couple's 2023 Range Rover and 2020 Porsche Taycan.
The break-in was discovered by the couple's housekeeper, who alerted police after checking on the property. Investigators say the total value of the stolen items exceeded $500,000. A business partner of the couple later helped track down a stolen MacBook Pro and the Range Rover using tracking apps, both of which pinged at a home in Miami-Dade County.
When detectives executed a search warrant at that address, they found Garcia hiding in a closet and Perdomo in an upstairs bedroom.
Both were arrested and now face multiple felony charges, including burglary, grand theft auto, and first-degree grand theft. A judge ordered both suspects held without bond and barred from returning to the victims' property.
