As the world mourns country music legend Dolly Parton, her family is remembering a side of the superstar that millions of fans rarely saw — the loving aunt, sister and grandmother figure they knew as “Aunt Dolly” and “Granny Gigi.”
Parton died at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer, according to her representatives. Her death was announced on Aug. 25 in an emotional video shared by her nephew Bryan Seaver, who worked as her head of security for more than two decades.
Seaver described the profound sadness of losing his aunt while also celebrating the extraordinary life she lived. He recalled following Parton on the road as a child in the early 1980s and witnessing how her success created opportunities for members of their family.
“My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you,” Seaver said, reflecting on how deeply Parton had become part of people’s lives through her music and public work.
Parton was one of 12 children born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Owens Parton. She went on to build one of the most successful careers in country music, while remaining closely connected to her large family.
Beyond her legendary songs, Parton was celebrated for her generosity and philanthropy. Her Imagination Library has provided millions of books to children, while her charitable work touched communities around the world.
For her family, however, her greatest legacy may simply be the love and memories she left behind.
