Hollywood legend Shirley MacLaine has delighted fans with a rare public appearance, sharing a warm video message and reflecting on one of the most memorable films of her celebrated career.
The 92-year-old Oscar-winning actress appeared in a video for Southampton Playhouse ahead of a screening of her 1969 musical comedy Sweet Charity. Seated comfortably on a couch, MacLaine greeted viewers and expressed her wish that she could attend the screening in person.
“I would like to see Sweet Charity again,” she said, while remembering the hard work that went into making the film. With her trademark sense of humor, MacLaine also joked about the movie’s original reception, acknowledging that it “didn’t do very well” when it was first released.
Despite its initial box-office performance, Sweet Charity has remained an important part of MacLaine’s legacy. The film, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, featured MacLaine as Charity Hope Valentine, a dance-hall hostess searching for love.
MacLaine ended her message on a touching note, sending “much love” to her fans. Her brief appearance quickly attracted attention from admirers, many of whom were thrilled simply to see the screen icon again.
The actress was last publicly seen in December 2025, when she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Dance Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The award was subsequently named in her honor.
