Designer of Princess Diana's wedding dress creates replica of her historic 40-foot veil after the original goes 'missing' - and shares unseen photographs of the gown's creation

More than four decades after Princess Diana's unforgettable royal wedding, the designer behind her iconic bridal gown has recreated one of its most memorable pieces—the legendary 40-foot veil.

Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed Diana's wedding dress alongside her then-husband David Emanuel, recently unveiled a handcrafted replica of the veil originally worn by the late Princess of Wales during her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles at St. Paul's Cathedral.

The original veil has long been missing from public displays of Diana's famous wedding gown, despite the dress itself being exhibited at locations including Kensington Palace and Althorp House over the years. To help complete the historic bridal look once again, Emanuel was commissioned by Renae Plant, founder of the Princess Diana Museum, to recreate the spectacular veil.v

Alongside the replica, Emanuel also shared rare behind-the-scenes photographs from 1981, showing seamstresses and embroiderers carefully crafting Diana's wedding dress inside her Mayfair studio. The unseen images offer a fascinating glimpse into the creation of one of the most famous bridal gowns in royal history.

Speaking about the project, Emanuel said the veil was an essential part of Diana's wedding ensemble, adding that it gave the dress a lighter, more magical appearance. She described it as the "Veil of Light," explaining that its delicate sparkle completed the fairytale look.

The recreation has delighted royal fans, preserving another piece of Princess Diana's remarkable legacy for future generations to admire.
