Prince Harry has landed in the UK — but not at Buckingham Palace, where he was originally invited to stay.

King Charles had extended an olive branch to his son, offering him accommodation at the Palace during his five day visit to London and Birmingham. Harry initially declined. Then he changed his mind and tried to accept — but by that point it was too late.
Palace officials informed him on Saturday evening that the stay could no longer go ahead. The necessary staffing and hospitality arrangements were no longer in place. The deadline for his response had been last Friday. He had been given several weeks to consider the offer and was still undecided over the weekend.

The confusion did not end there. Harry's team briefed media outlets including the BBC on Monday that he would in fact be staying at Buckingham Palace, citing direct discussions with King Charles. Within minutes those claims were publicly challenged by Palace sources who said the offer had simply expired because Harry had not responded in time.

Harry arrived without Meghan, Archie, or Lilibet. The family visit that had been widely anticipated — the one that raised hopes of a genuine reconciliation — has not materialised in the way anyone expected.

King Charles, meanwhile, spent Monday climbing aboard a Challenger 3 battle tank during a royal engagement with the British Army in Dorset. Whatever is happening with his son, the King appeared entirely unbothered.
Harry is in the UK for five days of engagements including marking the one year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
The Palace invitation was there. The deadline passed. And now everyone knows about it.
