Lizzie Cundy was asked to leave Royal Ascot last month for wearing an outfit that broke their strict dress code. Her response was to show up to her next public event in a £15 dress from a charity shop — and look completely remarkable doing it.

The former WAG attended a book launch in Mayfair this week wearing a barely-there slip dress with a cowl neck and thigh-skimming hem that she picked up from her local charity shop for fifteen pounds. She looked, by any measure, like she had not spent fifteen pounds.

The Ascot situation had caused quite a stir. Lizzie had worn a netted ensemble on day one of the races that officials deemed too revealing and she was turned away at the entrance. She pushed back immediately — saying the outfit was actually lined with a beige slip underneath and only gave the illusion of being more daring than it was.

She took her case to Good Morning Britain shortly after, where she apologized but also suggested that Royal Ascot might want to consider updating its rules to move with the times. A position that divided opinion fairly evenly between people who felt the dress code existed for a reason and people who felt it was applied inconsistently.

None of it appears to have slowed her down.
The charity shop dress she wore this week has already generated more conversation than most designer outfits manage. At 58, Lizzie Cundy is making a point — whether she intends to or not — that style has very little to do with price tags or permission.
