Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid have separated. The couple, who had been together for over ten years, went their separate ways late last year — and the news has only just come out.
There was no dramatic fallout. No public argument. Friends of the couple say the split was entirely amicable and came down to something quietly inevitable — two people who had simply reached a point where they were living different lives. Cox, 62, has been based in Los Angeles. McDaid, 49, has been mostly in London. For years they made it work. Eventually, it stopped working.
The two began dating in 2013 after being introduced through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran — who happens to be one of McDaid's closest collaborators. McDaid co-wrote some of Sheeran's biggest songs including Shape of You, Photograph, and Galway Girl, making him one of the most successful behind-the-scenes songwriters in the world even if most people couldn't pick him out of a lineup.
They got engaged in 2014, briefly split in 2015, then got back together in 2016. Cox once said she was actually thankful for that early breakup because it made their relationship stronger. McDaid spoke openly about how lucky he felt to be with her.
Their last public appearance together was at the US Open in September.
Since the split, both have reportedly moved on. McDaid is said to be in the early stages of a new relationship. Cox was recently spotted in New York with her Shining Vale co-star Greg Kinnear — though the two have confirmed they are just friends.
