The relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry has been strained for years. But William saying it out loud, in front of a crowd, is a different thing entirely.
During a public engagement, William confirmed that he and his brother have not been in contact for more than a year. He didn't say it with anger. He didn't elaborate. He simply said it — and moved on. Which, in many ways, hit harder than any dramatic statement would have.
The two brothers were once genuinely close. They walked behind their mother Diana's coffin together in 1997. They stood side by side at her memorial. They launched the Heads Together mental health campaign together. For a long time, the image of William and Harry as a united front was one of the most reliable things about the Royal Family.
That feels like a long time ago now.
Since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the US, the distance between the brothers has grown steadily. The Netflix documentary, the memoir, the interviews — each one added another layer to a falling out that neither side seems to know how to fix.
What makes William's comment land differently is the casualness of it. He didn't look wounded. He didn't seem angry. He stated it the way you'd state a fact — which suggests he has made some kind of peace with it, or at least learned to live with it.
Harry has spoken about wanting reconciliation. William, at least publicly, seems to be in a different place.
