Taemin signs with G-Dragon's agency Galaxy Corp ahead of Coachella debut

Taemin just made a move that nobody saw coming and the timing could not be more interesting.

The SHINee member and solo artist has signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corp., the AI entertainment technology company that also represents G-Dragon. The announcement came on March 11, with the agency describing the signing as part of its broader strategy to combine artist talent with emerging technologies like AI and robotics. Galaxy Corp. calls itself Korea's first "enter-tech" company, and its current roster G-Dragon, actor Song Kang-ho, and entertainer Kim Jong-kook already makes it one of the more unusual agencies in the industry.

Taemin spent most of his career at SM Entertainment before moving to Big Planet Made Entertainment. The Galaxy Corp. signing is his next chapter, and by the look of it, a deliberately different kind of one. The agency said it will work to expand the value of his artistic catalog through digital technologies, though specifics have not yet been shared.

What makes the timing notable is what is coming up on Taemin's schedule. He is set to perform at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California on April 11 and 18, where he will become the first Korean male solo artist to take the stage at the festival. It is a significant milestone, and the fact that it lands right at the start of his Galaxy Corp. era adds another layer to the story.

Taemin debuted in 2008 as a member of SHINee, a group that helped shape the direction of K-pop through the late 2000s and 2010s with songs like "Replay," "Ring Ding Dong," and "View." He launched his solo career in 2014 and built a reputation as one of the genre's most technically skilled performers, with releases like "Danger," "Move," and "Want" each earning him a loyal following well beyond the group's existing fanbase.

The combination of a career that long and a label focused on technology and IP expansion is an interesting one. Whether the partnership produces something genuinely new or stays mostly on the traditional side of the entertainment business is something fans will be watching closely starting with Coachella.
